Dr Gary Christopher
researcher – writer – lecturer
I’m an academic at Swansea University. I’m passionate about studying how our emotions and thinking abilities change as we age. My main focus is finding ways to help people age well by using the power of nostalgia.
One way I do this is by encouraging nostalgic conversations that bring back fond memories, which can improve the well-being of those living with dementia. I also explore how digital technology can create engaging experiences stimulating multiple senses, benefiting older adults.
In addition to my research, I am a co-director of the Dementia Health Integration Team within the Bristol Health Partners Academic Health Science Centre. In this role, I work collaboratively with researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and people with lived experience of dementia to drive forward innovative approaches in dementia care, prevention, and policy. Our team is dedicated to translating cutting-edge research into real-world impact, improving the lives of those affected by dementia through evidence-based interventions, public engagement, and cross-sector collaboration. Through this work, we aim to shape a more inclusive, compassionate, and effective approach to dementia care across health and social care settings.
I’m excited to share my knowledge and findings with you, and together, we can explore ways to enhance the ageing experience. Welcome to my website, where we bridge the gap between research and everyday life.
